JAMMU, MARCH 08 (KNO) : Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady participated in a function organised by the J&K Police for celebrating the International Women’s Day, here in the evening.
Mrs. Vohra lauded the well organised cultural programme comprising songs, poem recitation, skits, folk dances and presentations made by lady officers, Mrs. Anita Sharma and Ms. Sargun Shukla, on the “Role of Women Police in J&K” and “Legal provisions/laws provided for the protection/empowerment of Women” respectively.
Observing that ensuring the safety of women is a worldwide concern, First Lady emphasised the need to make women feel safe and secure and stressed that in this regard, the Police has to play a crucial role in imbuing confidence among women. Mrs. Vohra said that in spite of constitutionally and legally guaranteed rights and privileges relating to gender parity, there is still a great deal to be done to empower women in our society. She pointed to the need of a change in the mindset being brought about to see that women are respected and treated fairly in every walk of life.
Mrs. Vohra launched the “Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Women Safety App” and felicitated the wives of police martyrs and women police officer achievers on the occasion. Earlier, in his Welcome Address, Dr. S.P. Vaid, Director General of Police, spoke about the need for making women feel safe. Dr. Bharti Vaid, presented the Vote of Thanks with a commitment, on behalf of Police Wives Welfare Association, to reach to the people at large with the message to empower women. Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University, Police Officers and their families and distinguished guests were among those present on the occasion.(KNO)
